Lethargic West lose 2 – 0 to Barnoldswick Town

On a night where they never really got going, West fell to a goal in each half from a resurgent Barnoldswick Town.

Despite a few chances early on – including two disputed shouts for the ball having crossed the line that, upon reflection, probably did stay out – Barnoldswick took the lead after 7 minutes thanks to an expertly delivered free kick from deep reaching the head of Matthew Cavanagh who left Aaron Ashley with no chance. West tried to force the issue, but with little end product, failing to probably grab the game in midfield while being completely nullified from corners and Ben Steer’s throws.

Hopes of an improvement in the second half never came to fruition, and while the 82nd minute second goal – a magnificent free kick by Andrew Hill, whipped around the wall and beyond the reach of Ashley – may have slightly flattered Barnoldswick, they were certainly worthy of their win.

West remain 6th in the table, while Barnoldswick Town move up to 10th.
