NON-LEAGUE DAY: Football For All at West vs Congleton Town, 13 October – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

NON-LEAGUE DAY: Football For All at West vs Congleton Town, 13 October

A key date in the calendar for all clubs at our level, Non-League Day is a celebration of local clubs and the communities around them that make the British football pyramid what it is. Happening on Saturday 13 October, this season will see West play at home – and with that in mind, the club has decided to use our game against Congleton Town to open up the doors of Brookburn Road to those who may not otherwise be able to watch live football – whether that be due to monetary restrictions, a lack of time, or any other issues.

In an initiative we’re calling Football For All, West will be working alongside local charities to give free entry to their workers, volunteers, and service users. As a community club that has worked alongside several charitable organisations in the past, this is a natural extension of previous donation drives we have run before. As trivial as it may be in the grand scheme of things, Football offers relief from the day-to-day grind – which is, indeed, why many are drawn to it as a pass-time. This is something we firmly believe, and why we’ll be welcoming down those involved in various ways with organisations that are trying to improve the lives of people in our community.

The types of organisations that we’ll be welcoming cover a range of different issues: food banks, community theatres, charity shops, and housing schemes amongst others. One thing that unites them is that they provide an absolutely essential service, and that our area would be much worse off without them. We’ve left it up to each body to decide who to distribute their tickets to – workers, volunteers, service users, or anything else – and we’ll be proud to have them down at Brookburn Road to cheer on the boys.

While we’ve already reached out to a number of charities and charity-adjacent organisations close to our home of Brookburn Road, we understand that there are many more people out there who would like to come to a game at Brookburn Road but may be otherwise unable to. If you or anyone you know feels that you fit in with what we’ve described above, please let us know using the form below – we’d be happy to have you down to celebrate Non-League Day with us on Saturday 13th October. Football should be for all – and we’re proud to be a part of our local community. Come on, West!

More about Non League Day

NLD was launched in 2010 as an event to give non-league clubs in the English National League System a chance to promote themselves during an international break when Premier League and EFL Championship clubs have the weekend off and England are not playing on the Saturday.
