From the Dugout | David Powell’s notes vs Squires Gate, Saturday 30 March

Taken from the programme for the visit of Squire’s Gate on Saturday 30 March. Programmes available on the gate, £2.

Last Saturday was another display of the massive potential at our Club, with the nonleague dog day swelling the attendance (two and four legged) and creating national coverage via sky sports news.

This level of support really gave the players a shot in the arm producing some excellent entertaining football. Our dominance and quality of play in the first half deserved far more than Remy Howarth’s terrific curling long range finish to give us the lead. Other near misses allowed Padiham to gain a foothold in the game, and to be fair to them they came out second half with greater efforts to close us down.

Padiham’s equaliser, although a terrific shot was disappointing as we specifically work at training at ways of preventing such an opportunity in our own penalty area.

Despite this set back we finished the game very strongly with several sights at goal created and two terrific strikes which rattled the woodwork.

In our situation every point counts and hopefully this will be a crucial contribution to the season’s tally.

We will keep working hard on producing further positive performances in our remaining games and in doing so I remain confident that the lads will collect the necessary points to keep us in the Division, and what an achievement that will be when considering the 10 point deficit to safety when we took over in December!

That is the target, plain and simple, and with continued levels and growth of support from the side line for our 3 home games and two away games we will have the best chance possible to succeed, together!!

Enjoy the game!
