Where to Watch West this Weekend

It’s a full weekend of West action starting tomorrow night when West Didsbury & Chorlton travel to Gorton where they face Abbey Hey in the latest meeting of the South against East Manchester Derby.

Abbey Hey are an integral part of West’s modern history and are the only side they have faced in every season since joining the NWCFL in 2012. West and Abbey Hey were promoted together in 2013 as well as meeting in the finals of the NWCFL First Division Trophy at the end of that same season. Abbey Hey were also West’s first ever FA Cup opponents with the historic day coming at the beginning of the 2013/14 season which saw West run out 2-0 winners.

There have been 13 meetings between the two sides with West having come out on top in eight of them compared to the Gorton’s side 3 victories with two of the last three meetings having finished in draws. At the Abbey Stadium it’s much more even with five meetings having seen both sides win two each. Last season’s Friday night meeting finished in a 2-2 draw.

The game takes place on Friday night at the Abbey Stadium with kick off scheduled for 7:45pm.

Saturday see’s West Reserves travel to Garswood United having returned to winning ways with a 3-1 at home to Cheadle Town Reserves last weekend. A Callum Pragnell brace along with a goal from Gary Lilley lifted the 2nd XI into 8th with a top four finish still in their sights. They will be looking to avenge their cup exit from last month which saw them beaten 3-0 in the Semi Final of the JA Walton Challenge Cup. With West having already beaten them in the league this season they will be looking to complete a league double.

On Sunday West Women, buoyed by their 6-0 win over City of Liverpool last weekend will head to Moston where they will take on a high flying Curzon Ashton looking to overtake them into second place. West are on a high since being knocked out of the Argyle Sports Cup last month and have won their five previous fixtures which has seen them rise to second in the table.

Curzon, currently in fourth, head themselves into the game unbeaten in eight which has seen them reach the semi-finals of the Argyle Sports Plate.

The game will take place at St Matthews RC College on the 3G pitch with kick off at the later time of 3pm.
