West Weekend Round Up – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

West Weekend Round Up

It was a positive weekend for West as the first team registered a 4-2 win at home to Squires Gate in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Two early goals from Ben Steer put West into a commanding lead with Matty Kay and Ben Steer made sure before Squires Gate pulled two late goals back.

Elsewhere the Reserves lost 3-0 away to AFC Macclesfield,

On  Sunday, the Women’s team reached the SSE Women’s FA Cup First Round with a 6-3 win over MSB Woolton. Goals from Amy Friel, Shauna Edmondson (2), Elizabeth Livesey (2), and Jami Hodges were rewarded with an away tie to Hartlepool United in the next round.

It was a quiet weekend for our juniors sides with just four matches taking place.

The Under-14s difficult start to the season continued with a defeat to Hale Utd. West scored first with a free kick from Ben Solomon befre Hale equalised and we’re then awarded a penalty from which they scored again. The second half was constant West pressure, with Hale rarely venturing outside their half but the hale keeper made a series of amazing saves to secure a 2-1 win.

The U12s Magpies lost 11-1 to Wilmslow town jaguars. The solitary goal scored by Jack Haworth and assisted by Ioannis Doulgeridis with Kit Jordan earning player of the match.

The Under 14’s won in the cup tie winning 5-4.  West were the better side but again despite scoring 5 missed a hat full of chances and were punished with almost every one of their attacks. Scorers were James Lord, Tom Bentall, Samuel Berlyne Alex Mo with a penalty and an own goal. However despite the close call, West are through to the next round just.

Rounding off, the Under 10s lost 3-1 away to Altrincham Rockets in a great game with both sides playing well.  West had 12 shots and some terrific passing.  In a rare outing regular goalie Alfie Horner bagged the 10s only goal.  Wilf Clewlow earned player of the match with a great defensive display.
