West media roles: applications open – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

West media roles: applications open

Over the past 5 or so years, West Didsbury & Chorlton as a football club has grown enormously in a variety of different ways. On the pitch, we have been experiencing one of the most successful periods in our 109 year history, finishing with record points totals in each of the past two season. Off the pitch, we’ve gone from being watched by a handful of regulars to regularly having 250 in attendance on a Saturday. While the growth in supporters in intrinsically linked to the levels of performance on the pitch, the surrounding media content created by the club has also had a role to play in moulding the club into what it is known as today: a friendly, vibrant place that supports the local community.

We are now looking for people to join the media team in order to try and grow the club further, and to make sure that the club are making the most of any opportunities that occur. Each of the roles will consist working alongside the current team, and will provide ample opportunity for growth in the role, as well as providing perfect experience for those looking to make a career in the game. Each role is voluntary, but will include free entry to any West game upon which you are working.

To apply, please send an email to jobs@wdcfc.co.uk, noting any relevant experience you may have or examples of your work.

The roles are as follows:

Matchday media officer

This role mainly comprises providing accurate and timely updates on a match day through Twitter, as well as updating our Facebook page when appropriate (namely at half time and full time). The Work would begin roughly an hour before the game, with build up including tweeting of the teams, followed by any other relevant information, and, finally, the live tweeting of the game when major events happen.

This job can either be done solely by one applicant, or can be split upon a rota basis depending upon availability. No previous experience is required, but an understanding of how both Twitter and Facebook work is preferred, and an ability to quickly (and tactfully) convey matters on the pitch is necessary.

Website content manager

While our match reports and previews are regarded as some of the best at our level, we are currently looking for more contributors to write content that paints a larger picture around the club – and we are very much open to suggestions as to what that may be. Whether you would like to do weekly round-ups of other results across the league and their implications for West, interviews with members of the playing staff & committee, social media round-ups after a game, or something completely different: your ideas and efforts would be much appreciated.

Ideally, this role would comprise 1 article provided weekly, but there is room for flexibility. Previous experience of writing for online platforms is preferred, and an ability to use WordPress would be ideal – however, an ability to craft an article is the only thing truly necessary.

Below are some examples of the kinds of articles we would be looking to commission:

We will be advertising other roles – including helping out with the club on a matchday in a variety of different ways – in the coming weeks.
