West draw Nelson in Lancashire FA Challenge Cup

While West’s participation in the the Emirates FA Cup came to an end this week with a disappointing loss to 1874 Northwich, the draw for the first round of the Lancashire FA’s Partners Foundation Challenge Trophy was made yesterday.

West have been drawn at home to Nelson FC, a team most noted for being the first to beat Real Madrid on Spanish soil back in 1923. This season, the club is competing in the North West Counties Football League Division One – the level below West – having been relegated last season. The clubs played twice in 2016/17, with West running out 1-0 winners at home and the two drawing 4-4 away.

The game is to be played on the week commencing 25 September – further announcements will be made shortly.
