Where to Watch West this Weekend
With the weather hopefully having turn a corner for the better the weekend arrives with the prospect of a full weekend of West on the horizon.
On Saturday, West will welcome cross town rivals Abbey Hey to Brookburn Road for what should be another terrific day down at the prestigious Brookburn Road. Although yet to meet this season Abbey Hey are in fact West’s most met side since joining the NWCFL in 2012 having been promoted together in 2013 and even meeting in the First Division Trophy Final at Runcorn Linnets with West running out 1-0 winners.
Abbey Hey also have a huge part in West’s history as they were their first ever FA Cup opponents as West defeated them at Brookburn Road in August 2013 thanks to goals from Tre Baldwin-Willis and Anthony Potts. The Gorton side are the only team that West have faced in every season since 2012 and both will be looking for three points to extend that run as they look to beat the drop.
In addition, there’s also the prospect of a free beer courtesy of West’s latest partnership with the Beagle and local charity Reach Out to the Community.
Elsewhere on Saturday, having seen their unbeaten run stalled by the weather the Reserves look to get back on track as they travel to bottom club Cheadle Town Reserves. Cheadle currently sit bottom of League One with just seven points from the season whilst continue their quest to chase down the promotion places. Kick off from Park Lane is 3pm.
On Sunday, West Women look to bounce back from their Manchester Women’s Cup exit when they welcome Altrincham in the Argyle Sports Cup Second Round. Having seen their cup tie postponed first by the weather and then by West’s County Cup run they will be looking to overcome their divisional rivals and book a quarter final place at home to unbeaten Premier Division side Stockport County in the quarter finals.
Kick off on Sunday is 2pm, admission is FREE, the bar is open and, as always, everyone is welcome. You will be also able to follow the game via Twitter @WDC_Women
