West Women | League Cup Victories – West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC

West Women | League Cup Victories

Both teams progressed in their respective league cup competitions  on Sunday.

The firsts (Premier Division) hosted Sir Tom Finney Ladies (Division One North) in the Argyle Cup. In truth it was a game that took a long time to come to life. Despite having the majority of possession it was the 29th minute before West had a shot on target. The opening goal came in the 32nd, Paris Ford following in on a saved Taylor Gunn effort. Abbie Wright picked up a knock and was replaced by Ella Brackett. The visitors equalised on 35 minutes with a lofted effort over Claire, but West regained the lead on 42 minutes, an excellent Amy Vyas header from a quality Vicky Kerr free-kick. 2-1 to West at the break.

It was almost at the hour mark before West stepped up their game. Paris grabbed her second on 59, completing her hat-trick ten minutes later. On 73 minutes Ella Brackett scored her first for the club, followed by an even better second a couple of minutes later. With 5 minutes to go, Shortz got on the end of an excellent Sophie Bracegirdle cut-back. A late consolation for the visitors meant a 7-2 win for West.

Meanwhile, the reserves (Premier Division) were playing Boltonians Ladies (Division One) on Hardy Farm in the GMWFL cup. It was another excellent performance in front of goal for Cath Thompson, but West were forced to come from behind on 3 occasions before finally seeing out the win. Cath scored twice in the first half (assists from Georgina Westrope and Tracey Sloane) to make it 2-2 at the break, before adding a further brace in the second half (both assists by Sloane) either side of another Boltonians goal, to secure a 4-3 win.
