Supporters’ March 2018 Player of the Month | Ash Woods
Winning around half of the vote, Ash Woods has been awarded supporters’ Player of the Month for March 2018. Instrumental in turning around our poor winter form, Woods put in a series of strong performances throughout March which clearly caught the eye of West fans.
During the course of the month, Ash earned two nominations as player of the match from the opposition; the 3-3 draw against Hanley Town, and the 2-1 away victory at Charnock Richard. Naturally, Woods had got his name on the scoresheet during both these games, the former a thunderous drive from the edge of the area, and the second an instinctive finish after gobbling up a loose ball in the area. He also scored the sole consolation during a terrible team performance away at Padiham. Aside from the scoresheet, Ash has been everything you’d hope of a team player – hard-working, self-sacrificing, and decisive. His award is well deserved and stands him in good stead ahead of the Player of the Season voting, which is due to take place within the next few weeks.
Ben Steer finished as runner-up, while Lanre Olapede earned a third-placed finish – both would’ve also been worthy winners.
