Saul Henderson voted September Player of the Month
In what was a disappointing month for the side as a whole, Saul Henderson can at least take personal glory having been voted Player of the Month for September 2018.
Making 6 appearances over the course of the month, the striker – known mainly by his nickname Beef to West fans – started all 6 games in September, scoring 3 goals.
With Tom Bailey currently out injured, Saul has led the line with a high press – and has also improved the aerial aspect of his game compared to last season, something which has certainly helped his performances become more well rounded this time out. Noted for his running in behind, Beef is currently the club’s leading scorer with 7 goals – he scored a trio in August, before adding another in last night’s defeat against Barnoldswick. Henderson finished a few votes clear of second placed Saul Brew-Butler in the polling, with Marcus Burgess and Merizel Dos Santos the two other nominees.
Perhaps the high point of Beef’s month came right at the very death, as he snatched a last minute winner away at Squires Gate during our final fixture of September, giving West a vital 1-0 win following a dogged performance. Hopefully he can continue to be just as decisive over the course of October, with several key games coming up. Congratulations, Saul!
