Match Report | Crewe Alexandra Women 1-0 West Women

West slipped to a late defeat in a game of very few chances.

We started the brighter of the two teams and kept Crewe in their own half for the first 15 minutes or so. There were a couple of shots apiece before Crewe stepped up their game and forced Claire into a decent save on 23 minutes.

West were temporarily reduced to 10 following a sin-bin offence, but it had little impact on the game and there was very little action leading up to half-time.

Half-time: Crewe 0-0 West

West’s first clear chance of the game came in the 54th minute, Taylor putting in a deep cross,  but the resulting shot was easy for the keeper. Shortly after there was a collision in the centre circle, Rach Mason picking up a leg injury and having to be carried off after a stoppage of 5 minutes. Fingers crossed she’s ok and back soon. Sophie Sumner was on in her place.

The game was scrappy again, Crewe with a couple of corners, and Taylor shooting wide for West following a decent run and ball over the top.

The only goal of the game came in the 84th minute, an unmarked Crewe player turning in a corner.

West responded well, seeing a shot from a corner blocked and firing well over just before the final whistle.
