Match Report | West Women 1-3 Darwen

A poor performance from West in a game moved to Broadhurst Park due to a frozen pitch at home.

West were slow starters and allowed Darwen far too much time on the ball. They had a goal disallowed for offside but on 16 minutes their striker wasn’t closed down and had ample time to pick her spot and lob Claire who was off her line.

The goal did trigger a response from West and on 24 minutes they drew level. Bianca Blöchl provided the assist for Taylor Gunn to convert from close range. The remainder of the half lacked quality from both sides, the game all square at 1-1 at the break.

Darwen again took the upper hand before the hour mark, and almost a repeat of their opening goal. The same player allowed too much space and again picking her spot to lob Claire.

West made 3 changes but it was Darwen who continued to push for another goal, Claire having to make a couple of decent saves.

There was late drama in the first minute of added time when West had a goal disallowed for offside. Two minutes later Darwen sealed the win with a third goal.

There was better news for the reserves who secured a 4-1 league win at Hyde, with goals from Cath Thompson (3) and one for Leigh McFadyen on her return to the club.
