Caretaker manager Matty Kay takes his West side to Charnock Richard on Tuesday night.
Saturday’s home defeat to Winsford United led to Steve Settle’s resignation and left West six points off Premier Division safety. As such, while West may be in limbo as they search for a new permanent manager, this trip to central Lancashire remains vital.
Charnock recorded a top-six finish in 2017-18, their first season at Step 5, but they have found things considerably more difficult this time around. Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Northwich Victoria was their fourth loss in a row and left them 15th in the table. West will also hope to continue a good record against Charnock, having won both games last season including a 5-3 thriller on the final day of the campaign.
However, the home side will always be a threat when they are able to call upon Carl Grimshaw – the Charnock hitman scored his 400th goal for the club in a defeat to Whitchurch Alport last month, and has struck 21 times in 26 appearances so far this season.
