After last weekend’s false start, West aim to get their February underway with the first of two consecutive games against Merseyside opposition. City of Liverpool visit Brookburn Road next Tuesday, but first Steve Settle’s side head down the M62 to take on AFC Liverpool.
West’s season has run in parallel with that of the Reds so far. After strong starts, both sides find themselves hovering over the wrong end of the table after torrid ends to 2017. A first away win since 16th December would create clear daylight between West and the drop zone, while the Reds clambered out of the bottom four last weekend with an invaluable win at Maine Road.
That represented a winning start for new management team Stuart Keir and Ben Williams, appointed following Chris Stammers’ resignation on Christmas Eve, but the duo suffered a blow this week with top scorers Kevin Edgar and Daniel Boden both leaving the club.
