MATCH PREVIEW | West v Hanley Town

Saturday 9th December 2017 (3pm), NWCFL Premier Division
West v Hanley Town
Brookburn Road, M21 8FE
£5 adults, £3 concessions, free for under-12s accompanied by an adult

Hanley Town are the visitors on Saturday as Brookburn Road hosts the annual West Christmas Miracle.

West will be hoping the charity doesn’t extend onto the pitch against a side currently three points off the top of the Premier Division – particularly as Steve Settle’s side are now just three places above the relegation zone following Monday’s postponed game against AFC Darwen coupled with results elsewhere.

Hanley

Hanley quickly established themselves as the main challengers to the two Runcorn sides at the start of this season, losing just once in their first 13 games up to the end of October. They are duly tucked just behind Town and Linnets as the season approaches the halfway stage, but they have stumbled of late – Tuesday’s 2-0 reverse at 1874 Northwich was their third defeat in a row in all competitions. Every defeat could prove costly considering the points-per-game formula that will determine who goes up as the pyramid restructures itself, but to even be talked of as promotion candidates is an achievement considering Hanley only made their Premier Division bow last season. A promising top-half finish in 2016-17 has been followed up in style so far this campaign, thanks in no small part to the exploits of Daniel Cope – the Premier Division’s leading scorer with 24 goals in all competitions.

Last time – West 2-2 Hanley, Saturday 4th February 2017

Hanley scored a 94th-minute equaliser to snatch a point on their first visit to Brookburn Road. Daniel Cope put the visitors ahead at the break, but Nic Evangelinos and Matty Kay put West in the lead before Jonny Higham had the final word in stoppage time.
